The most notable advancement this weekend was the addition of this design. It is modeled after an old telephone cord, a symbol I find enhances the desired concept of generosity. Many choose to ignore or avoid their family and friends due to busy schedules or lack of interest, and it takes a generous person to be willing to make and answer calls on a regular basis. This takes on added meaning in the context of a medical environment.
Here are the initial studies and attempts at design with varied success, and the first print with the new block.
A couple simple tests of the alignment of the new block and getting it registered correctly.
Here I attempted to print in color on top of a rolled out background created with the brayer applied directly to the newsprint I was working with.
For this version of the piece, I rolled out lateral stripes of red with my brayer for a texturized background. Afterward, I printed a yellow version of the pattern with staggered cord heads instead of the original level orientation. I feel that the staggering is effective, but that the bands of color are distracting and weak.
For this iteration, I attempted a more radial pattern, with planes of symmetry. I am quite fond of it and may attempt to incorporate it into the final clothing design, perhaps as an addition to the back of a shirt.
